Renting a Car on Bonaire for Your Internship or Job: Monthly Rental Made Easy

Long stayBy Lynden & the Spare Keys family

Every year, students and young professionals come to Bonaire for an internship, a research project or a temporary job. One of the first things they discover: without a car, it's hard to get around.

Do you really need a car?

Bonaire has almost no public transport. Taxis are fine for the occasional night out, but not for your daily commute. A bike or scooter is cheaper, but at 30°C, a ride to work quickly turns into a sweaty one. And on weekends you'll want to explore: the beaches, Lac Bay, the national park.

Why monthly rental with Spare Keys works

Our cars belong to our family, and for part of the year we're not on the island. Those are exactly the months we rent them out, so a longer rental suits us perfectly. For you, that means:

  • A fair monthly price: $[X] per month for the RAV4, $[X] for the Trailblazer. Ask us about the Jeep.
  • Personal contact: Lynden delivers the car to your house, and you have one person to WhatsApp if anything comes up.
  • No office hours: no counter, no queue, no call center.

Which car suits you?

  • Toyota RAV4: reliable, comfortable and practical for daily commuting.
  • Chevrolet Trailblazer (7 seats): sharing a house with other interns? Split the costs and go to the beach together.
  • Jeep Wrangler: for those who want to explore the rugged north and east on weekends.

Good to know

  • Your Dutch or other EU driver's license is valid on Bonaire.
  • Extra drivers: [free / $X per month]. Housemates can share the car if they're registered as drivers.
  • Deposit: [details].
  • Maintenance: if something needs fixing, Lynden arranges it.
  • Availability: we only have three cars, and long rentals depend on when our family is on the island. Message us as soon as you know your dates.

How to book

Send Lynden a WhatsApp with your start and end date, which car you'd like and where you'll be living. He'll confirm availability and arrange the handover.
