Rental terms – Spare Keys Bonaire

We keep it simple. Here's everything you need to know.

Who can rent

  • The main driver is at least 23 years old and has held a valid driver's license for at least 2 years.
  • Extra drivers are free, but must meet the same requirements and be named on the rental agreement.
  • Please bring your driver's license and passport to the handover.

Price and payment

  • You pay the rental price and the refundable deposit at the handover, in cash (US dollars) or [by card / bank transfer].
  • Unlimited kilometers and [free delivery and pick-up] are included.

Deposit and damage: one simple rule

  • Every car has a fixed deposit: $500 for the RAV4 and Trailblazer, $1,000 for the Jeep.
  • Your deposit is also the most you'll ever pay for damage to the car, including tires and windows.
  • At handover and return, we take photos of the car together and share them in our WhatsApp chat. That way, there's never any discussion about what was already there.
  • No damage? You get your deposit back right away at return (or within 3 working days if you paid by card or transfer).
  • Damage? We get a repair quote within 3 working days. You pay the actual repair cost, up to your deposit, and get back whatever is left.

When the maximum does not apply

In these cases you pay the full cost of the damage, also above the deposit:

  • driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
  • a driver who is not on the rental agreement;
  • driving the RAV4 or Trailblazer in Washington Slagbaai National Park or on unpaved roads where it isn't allowed;
  • driving off-road outside marked roads and routes (also with the Jeep);
  • gross negligence or deliberate damage;
  • not reporting an accident to the police and to us.

Small costs

  • Fuel: return the car with the same fuel level. If not: the fuel cost plus $10.
  • Cleaning: a very sandy, dirty or wet interior: $50. Smoking in the car: $150.
  • Lost key: actual replacement cost.
  • Traffic fines during your rental: the fine plus $25 handling.
  • Lost or damaged extras: cooler box $[X], snorkel set $[X].
  • Late return: more than 2 hours late without letting us know counts as an extra day.

Insurance

  • All cars have third-party liability insurance. [The Jeep is also fully insured.] [To confirm with insurer: insurance covers rental use.]
  • Please note: your own car insurance or credit card may not cover rentals on Bonaire.

Where you can drive

  • Only the Jeep Wrangler is allowed in Washington Slagbaai National Park and on rough dirt roads.
  • The RAV4 and Trailblazer stay on paved roads and short, easy unpaved access roads to beaches.

Accidents and breakdowns

  • In case of an accident: don't move the car, call the police (911) and WhatsApp Lynden right away.
  • Flat tire or breakdown: WhatsApp Lynden, he'll help you out.

Cancellation

  • Free cancellation. Please let us know at least 48 hours in advance, so someone else can use the car.
